On March 20th and 21st, 2014 at the National School of Public Policy in Lahore, Pakistan, over 130 participants, including high-ranking civil servants from various departments, academics from Harvard Kennedy School, Pomona College, London School of Economics, MIT and Lahore University of Management Sciences, came together for a two-day dialogue on Civil Service Reform in Pakistan, as part of EPoD’s Building Capacity to Use Research Evidence (BCURE) program.

The Pakistan Civil Service Reform dialogue demonstrated the value of policy maker and researcher collaborations to help catalyze such engagements, especially on civil service reforms that can deliver better outcomes.

The event promoted researcher and policymaker collaboration by highlighting Asim Kwhaja, Ben Olken and Adnan Khan’s Property Tax Project in the Punjab.

Participants then broke off into smaller groups, matching policymakers and researchers on specific reform topics (such as civil servant selection) and sectors (such as education) with leading academics in that field to develop plans for future engagements.
