Trainings on Evidence Use: Training of Trainers

Trainings on Evidence Use: Training of Trainers

Approach:

To build capacity at scale, we use a Training of Trainers model wherein we train civil service academies to incorporate our BCURE content into their syllabi. By doing this, we ensure that Harvard-designed content reaches a larger number of policymakers and builds a culture of evidence into institutions in a cost-effective manner.

EPoD Approach Training of Trainers

Audience:

Training of Trainers participants include instructors who teach at civil service or public policy training academies and others who teach policy practitioners such as university professors or lecturers.

Content:

Our Training of Trainers courses are about one week long. Harvard faculty and affiliates train participants in both the pedagogical techniques and content knowledge needed to implement trainings on evidence-use. This includes cutting edge pedagogy that allows instructors to customize content to their own audience and setting. Sample content includes:

  • Complete demo session (digital module with accompanying in-class session)
  • Teaching with blended learning, including incorporating learner data into teaching preparation and delivery
  • Using real world examples to deepen understanding of broader data and evidence use principles
  • Practice teaching sessions where participants practice teaching BCURE and receive peer and faculty feedback on their teaching

We recommend Training of Trainers workshops to be part of a larger engagement focused on our Building Capacity to Use Research Evidence (BCURE) program. Generally this includes both pilot trainings conducted by Harvard-EPoD affiliates and additional support for a longer-term program.
