EPoD Communications Student Worker

Expected weekly hours: 5-15 hours per week

Who We Are: 

Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD), housed within the Center for International Development, is a dynamic research initiative that brings analytical insights, typically from economics, to the design and implementation of public policies and programs around the world. EPoD directly engages with governments and local organizations to identify key questions, design innovative new policies or interventions, and test these using the tools of economics and data analysis, including large field-based experiments.  

 

The Role: 

This position will support a wide range of communications activities for EPoD. The role will contribute to research summaries on a wide range of topics in development economics, and help build an audience for communications pieces by researching outlets and writing for social media. This position will gather and synthesize important contextual information to be used in writing and media content for the popular press/general public to convey research insights for policy to improve lives in developing countries.  This role will allow a candidate with strong writing and research skills to interact with faculty across Harvard who work in economics and other disciplines. This is a dynamic project and tasks may change as it progresses. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Write articles, website text, and social media posts  

  • Edit and repurpose written content (often technical in nature) for various communication pieces  

  • Read and synthesize technical articles to key takeaways for website and social media 

  • May conduct desk research to gather and summarize background information relevant to EPoD initiatives  

  • Support article proofing and grammatical edits, as requested 

  • Conduct outreach to alumni and other stakeholders 

  • Assist in building audience on social media 

  • Watch recorded webinars to find quotes for video snippets 

  • Other tasks as needed 

Qualifications: 

  • The successful candidate must have some background knowledge of development economics 

  • Background in journalism, communications or developing social media content is desired 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Ability to work independently  

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively  

  • Experience with CRM management desired 

  • Design skills are desired
