Dr. Ayesha Razzaque uses data collected by EPoD’s LEAPS team to debunk the myth that private schools in Pakistan are only accessible to the elite. Not only do 89% of private schools qualify as low-cost according to our data (charging less than Rs.800 per month), they often fill gaps in rural areas where government schools are few and far between. Given that students in these private schools outperform their government school peers in terms of learning, Dr. Razzaque warns against undermining this market at a time when private schools are already suffering due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
