Changing Harmful Norms

EPoD Faculty Affiliate, Eliana La Ferrara delivered the 32nd Annual Kuznets Memorial Lecture, "Changing Harmful Norms" on Thursday March 2, 2023 at 4PM. Find the recording of the event here.

Hosted annually by the Yale Economic Growth Center since 1987, the Simon Kuznets Memorial Lecture features a prominent economist speaking on issues in economic development.

As with every Kuznets lecture since 2020, the talk was followed by a mini-conference showcasing cutting-edge research by early-career researchers on topics covered in the lecture. This year's mini-conference, "Norms, Gender, and Development", took take place Friday March 3, 2023.

Professor Eliana La Ferrara presented recent research on the power of social factors in the development process in economic growth and development, discussing the potential role of policy interventions in reducing the prevalence of harmful norms like female genital cutting.
